“A Moment in Alsace” was a collection of 53 black-and-white photographs by Daniel Jouanneau, taken during lulls in work while on assignment for Vogue in Alsace, France in 1976. The exhibition is a photologue of a day in the life of two men who make their living from weaving baskets. One of the men does the weaving and the other sells the baskets in town to buy bread. The photographs deftly capture the two men in all their freedom and rustic simplicity, supporting each other in their day-to-day lives. Presented in 17 frames along with an essay by Jouanneau, this reportage revolving around basket weaving presents a vivid depiction of the encounter between the two Frenchmen and the photographer, who they greeted as one of their own. “A Moment in Alsace” was complemented with a second display featuring striking photographs of the spaces between buildings in Japan.
