21_21 DESIGN SIGHT

On January 28, 2003, The Asahi Shimbun Evening Edition, ran an article contributed by Issey Miyake titled “Time to Create a Design Museum,” which received many positive responses. It was in March 2007, following the support of many people that just such new hub for design-related activities, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, was born. THE MIYAKE ISSEY FOUNDATION has been closely involved with 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT from the very beginning; with designers Issey Miyake, Taku Satoh, and Naoto Fukasawa serving as directors, and Noriko Kawakami serving as associate director. In their respective capacities these people have offered a wide spectrum of information, ideas, and suggestions from a design standpoint.
