Lower Level Gallery View, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology: Tailoring and Dressmaking

Manus X Machina is on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Robert Lehman Wing until the 14th August 2016. The organizing principles of the exhibition are based upon the list of métiers of dressmaking outlined in Diderot’s Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers (Encyclopedia, or Systematic Dictionary of the Sciences, Arts, and Crafts). The exhibition celebrates the art of making, in which the hand and the machine work in unison to create fashions of exceptional originality and outstanding technical ingenuity.
