At a talk session held during the exhibition, Miyake spoke about working with Shiro Kuramata. He mentioned that Kuramata had designed most of ISSEY MIYAKE shops since 1976, but that the shop in Saint-German, Paris, stood out among the rest. During the 1983 renovation, Kuramata had used cloth to drape the walls, which was then solidified to become a fixture. Instantly, the walls were transformed by the striking movement of the white folds created by the design, and Miyake was inspired to create the “Waterfall Body” series in 1984. As he spoke, a model displayed a Waterfall Body garment for all to see.
