Toward the Future: through the eyes of the artists awarded the Hiroshima art prize

April 16 — June 26, 2005

Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, Japan

“A-POC Camembert” (2004) was exhibited as part of an installation by Tokujin Yoshioka as a winner of the inaugural Hiroshima Art Prize. The prize, which is awarded for outstanding contribution to peace among mankind in the field of contemporary art, was established by the Hiroshima municipal government in 1989 to appeal to the wider world and spread the “Spirit of Hiroshima,” which seeks everlasting world peace. In 2005, the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, an exhibition was held to bring people up-to-date with the previous winners’ activities since winning their prizes. Six past winners exhibited subsequent works and a special message for Hiroshima.
