In spring 2024, ISSEY MIYAKE is published by TASCHEN. It is a revised and updated edition of the 2016 book of the same title, and initiated and conceived by Midori Kitamura, who has worked alongside the designer Issey Miyake for more than 50 years.
With a new cover and additional pages, this new edition brings together all of Miyake's work from 1960 to 2022.
The focus of this exhibition is « Rhythm Pleats » which is featured on the cover of the book. This series of pleated dresses was designed for the ISSEY MIYAKE Spring-Summer 1990 Collection, and each is in elliptical, round and rectangular shapes in flat. This dress shows the dynamic, three-dimensional changes when worn, and it is representative of work of Miyake who has continuously brought surprise and joy through his design.
Also on display are posters of the dresses featuring photographs by Irving Penn and graphic design by Ikko Tanaka.
Copies of the new book are on display in the gallery, and you have the opportunity to browse through the pages and connect with the innovation and insight that Miyake brought to the world.
