This exhibition showcases the artworks of Ikko Tanaka, a renowned graphic designer from Nara Prefecture, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the museum. Tanaka’s creative exuberance that continues to inspire his viewers is showcased mainly in posters and graphic art from the museum’s collection.

The sixth and final section of the exhibition is named "Special Program: IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE." It displays clothing items from the entire range of IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE that stemmed from Miyake’s deep respect for and appreciation for Tanaka's oeuvre. Alongside these garments are the works by Tanaka that formed each garment motif.

In addition, a related exhibition, “ISSEY MIYAKE poster exhibition: ISSEY MIYAKE/IRVING PENN/IKKO TANAKA,” is displayed on the first-floor gallery to celebrate its new opening. This exhibition comprises 20 posters that each feature the three creators: clothing by Issey Miyake, photography by Irving Penn, and layout/typography by Ikko Tanaka.

In particular, this exhibition chronologically features posters from exhibitions related to Issey Miyake, including two very large posters from the “ISSEY MIYAKE A UN” exhibition held at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1988, as well as specially selected ISSEY MIYAKE collection posters from the Spring/Summer 1987 season to the Autumn/Winter 1999 season.
