The first properly Japan-led exhibition of Japanese fashion was held at the Barbican Art Gallery in London in conjunction with the Kyoto Costume Institute. The themes included “Tradition+Innovation” and “Flatness” and Issey Miyake’s “Origami Pleats” (1988), “A-POC King & Queen” (1998) and “A-POC Angel” (2000) were requested as exhibits exemplifying these themes.
