This exhibition was part of the Cultural Olympiad, held to coincide with the Olympics. Its aim was to examine the many ways in which a single piece of cloth has been worn as a garment across different regions, races, cultures, and eras. “Colombe” (1990), which was sculpted without the use of scissors, needles, or thread, was displayed at the entrance to the exhibition as a prologue to the main event. Elsewhere, “Waterfall Body” (1984) was also shown. Miyake also provided the epilogue to the event to demonstrate that pleats are a future-oriented expression, with examples from the “ISSEY MIYAKE FÊTE Constellation Series” (2002) displayed. The foundation also loaned pieces for an installation by Tokujin Yoshioka.
